Architectural Photography

Welcome! I am a Los Angeles-based photographer. This site is dedicated to my own photography about the built environment, art installations and related commissioned work. For my more eccentric art work, please visit www.double-bang.com

What I Do

I take photos of buildings, art installations, the built environment. Having spent most of my professional career with moving images (see bio) and all the heavy lifting implications that it entails, my still photography is inversely of a small footprint nature. This affords me a higher degree of control and limits impact and aggravation for the client and/or property owner. Anyone having been on the receiving end of a full-blown Hollywood production will agree. My experience in computer graphics, animation, and color grading allows me to be agile, knowing just how much can be done (or not) in post production. This nimbleness translates into shorter and cost effective photo sessions.

What I Won’t Do

Drone shots for the sake of drone shots. Run of the mill real estate listings. Events such as weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, banquets, etc…

How I Do It

I typically show up early in the morning. Take notes from client of “must have” shots and start moving about the building. Museums and galleries are “easy” since shows on display have already been lit in a consistent, professional “to be looked at” manner. Residences are more challenging, since lighting is usually inconsistent, by design, as to best serve the function of each space. Time of day, generally speaking, is also more of a concern when shooting residences vs museums. Thus, I usually reserve some time at the end of the day for the areas best served by the richer light of late afternoon. All projects below (except for VDL) were shot in a single day. Typical post production time is double the number hours spent shooting. I bill by the hour. I retain the intellectual property (meaning I will always be the creator and also retain the right to use the shots for self-promotion.) You do what you want with them as long you give me credit. Fair enough?

Send me an email if you have a space you’d like me to photograph.
